When plans shift, our pilots set the course.
Volunteer pilot @Adriaanse.Rob and his son, Thomas, set out to fly 10 stray cats and kittens from Fort St. John to Victoria, B.C., for our partners @Np_forgottenfelinessociety and @VOKRA.
Each of these lucky felines had new families waiting for their arrival in Victoria.
After a planned fuel stop in Quesnel, tightening weather over the Coast Mountains made the original route unsafe.
Exercising his judgment as pilot in command, Rob made the call to divert to Lillooet. There, he connected with a helpful fellow aviator who lent him a vehicle to drive the cats to Victoria the same day, where they were safely delivered to VOKRA. A local first responder also made quick friends with one of the kittens!
The kindness of animal lovers knows no end. We can’t thank the individuals on the ground in Lillooet enough for helping Rob, Thomas, and almost a dozen cats get where they needed to go.
Pilots are in charge of their transports: they decide when to launch, divert, or stand down.
Rob’s above-and-beyond choice to complete the mission by road was incredibly generous.

Look at this adorable 2-year-old golden retriever having a fresh start!
Our volunteer pilots @kai.salvini and @paul.salvini flew over 800 km to bring him to Simba to his foster family through @GoldenRescue.
Golden retrievers are incredible companions because they`re so loyal, loving, and full of energy. They thrive with daily exercise, mental stimulation, and plenty of time with their people. With a 10-15 year lifespan, they`re a wonderful long-term addition to families who have the time and space to let them shine.
That`s why working with rescues like Golden Rescue is so valuable. They make sure each dog finds the right match as a family.
Thanks to Kai and Paul for making the flight, and to Golden Rescue for their dedication to every dog in their care.

Our golden co-pilot is Bailey, a two-year-old rescue who joined the skies with pilot Maciej (@tangotangomango).
Bailey came to his second chance through Golden Rescue @goldenrescuecanada — one of Canada’s largest and most devoted single-breed rescue groups. Run entirely by volunteers, Golden Rescue has helped thousands of Goldens find safe and happy homes since 1990.
We’re so happy Bailey found his wings and we’re proud to keep working alongside Golden Rescue to help more dogs find theirs. 💛🐶

A rehabilitated sharp-shinned hawk is home in beautiful Haida Gwaii, B.C.
In our first transport with @OWLRehab, volunteer pilot Walter C. clocked over 12 hours of total flying time to return the hawk to its original range on this remote B.C. island. The transport spanned multiple legs and an overnight for Walter in Alaska to manage daylight, fuel, and weather safely.
Why the hurry? Fall weather windows close fast on the North Coast. Delaying even a few weeks could have grounded this transport for the season.
Thank you to Orphaned Wildlife (OWL) Rehabilitation Society for the expert care, and to Walter for the precision and patience that kept stress low and safety high.
This is public-benefit flying at work: getting recovered wildlife back where they’ll thrive.
This transport could not have happened without our donors. Donations make it possible for pilots to commit to extended flying times knowing they’ll have the rest time and support they need.

We wanted to share a heartwarming update from one of our rescues back in May!
Meet Kento (now "Kenny") who was flown to his forever home in Victoria, BC! This special transport marked pilot David`s (@pwnthew0rld) first rescue mission with us - and he`s been flying high with compassion ever since, volunteering for multiple transports! Kenny`s dad Max tells us: "He was acting like he owned the place within the first week... He just wants to play all day every day and keeps us on our toes with around the clock mischief!" 😸
From rescue to forever home, with a little help from our wings! Thank you @wetnoses_rescue for trusting us with this precious cargo.

Happy Air Traffic Controller Day!
Air traffic controllers are the unseen guides keeping our skies safe, coordinating aircraft movements, managing airspace, and ensuring pilots have what they need for safe flights.
Here at Canadian Wings of Rescue, we`re fortunate to have ATCs on our team through our volunteers who also act as our pilots! They bring expertise that helps us navigate complex airspace and coordinate rescue flights across the country for all of our beloved animals.
To all the air traffic controllers, thank you for keeping everyone safe up there. We`re happy to work with you on every important rescue.
