Happy Air Traffic Controller Day!
Air traffic controllers are the unseen guides keeping our skies safe, coordinating aircraft movements, managing airspace, and ensuring pilots have what they need for safe flights.
Here at Canadian Wings of Rescue, we`re fortunate to have ATCs on our team through our volunteers who also act as our pilots! They bring expertise that helps us navigate complex airspace and coordinate rescue flights across the country for all of our beloved animals.
To all the air traffic controllers, thank you for keeping everyone safe up there. We`re happy to work with you on every important rescue.

This summer has been incredible for Canadian Wings of Rescue – we`ve completed over 25 life-saving transports across Canada. Whether flying animals to forever homes, urgent medical care, foster families, or safe shelters, each flight represents a critical lifeline for these precious souls.
Our deepest gratitude goes to the amazing volunteers who coordinate these transports, our rescue partners who trust us with their animals, the foster families who open their hearts and homes, and especially our volunteer pilots who donate their time, skills, and aircraft to make these rescues possible.
As we head into the colder months, our commitment doesn`t waver. Winter weather won`t ground our compassion! If you know of any animal in need of transport to safety, medical care, or a new beginning anywhere across Canada, please reach out.
Together, we`re bridging distances and saving lives, one flight at a time.

Recently, we coordinated an emergency double eagle transport with The Owl Foundation and Thunder Bird Wildlife. Both eagles were badly injured and needed specialized care at the National Wildlife Centre in southern Ontario fast.
The adult eagle`s rescue near Kam River was intense but safely managed. The team had to position themselves carefully to push the eagle away from the shoreline without threatening it. After securing the bird safely in the very dense environment, the eagle was stabilized and ready for transport.
Meanwhile, a juvenile eagle was found injured under powerlines in Wawa with a badly broken wing that needed immediate attention to prevent irreparable damage.
Volunteer pilot @ori_kaplan stepped up to fly both eagles south for the emergency care they desperately needed. Time was critical, and everyone worked together to make it happen.
Huge thanks to @thunderbirdwildlife for their incredible ground rescue work, @theowlfoundation for coordinating everything, and Ori for getting these birds where they needed to be.
We`re incredibly thankful that everyone was able to work together, and both eagles are now getting the best care possible.

This 8-year-old rescue husky, Knox, just completed a cross-province journey from B.C. to his new family in Saskatchewan!
When our rescue partner, @kennels_2_couches, reached out to make this rescue flight possible, we were thrilled to have two incredible pilots step up.
Big thanks to our volunteer pilots @Chris_A_Eh and Ken who completed this relay transport. When an animal needs to travel a long distance, it sometimes takes two or more pilots to make it happen.
Huskies like Knox are intelligent, high-energy, and born adventurers. They love the outdoors and do best with active families who can keep up with their need for exercise, space, and attention
Welcome home, Knox — here’s to new trails, snowy walks, and endless love in your forever home!

Our Transport Coordinators and animal wellness specialist support them and our rescue partners through the process to make sure everything goes smoothly.

Canadian Wings of Rescue was thrilled to support our partner, @AllianceNorthFlying, at Air Bridge 2025 — Canada’s first live emergency response simulation showcasing the critical role of general aviation in disaster preparedness.
This first-of-its-kind event brought together pilots, emergency responders, and public benefit flying organizations to demonstrate how airports and volunteer aviation networks can step up when it matters most.
As an organization that uses public benefit flying to transport vulnerable animals across Canada, we were proud to share our mission, and even prouder that several of our volunteer pilots and members of our operations team contributed their time and aircrafts to help make this simulation a success.
Congratulations to Alliance North and all participating partners for showing what’s possible when communities and aviation come together for good.

We have another homecoming! Our volunteer pilot @clayberndt picked up this great horned owl from @theowlfoundation in the Niagara region and flew her back to her original habitat outside Ottawa for release. She`s now back to her home
This is the third great horned owl we`ve transported to The Owl Foundation for rehabilitation, and we`re glad to see them ready to go home healthy.
Thanks to Clay for making the trip and to The Owl Foundation for getting another bird back to flying and reclaiming her home.
