From Sudbury to Thunder Bay, this Western Painted Turtle got the ride of a lifetime back to his original habitat after 388 days of rehabilitation at @TurtlePondWildlifeCentre to prepare for winter. 🐢
Why does this matter? Western Painted Turtles play a vital role in their ecosystem. As omnivores, they help keep wetlands healthy by controlling insect and fish populations, recycling nutrients, and keeping aquatic ecosystems balanced.
A huge shoutout to our volunteer pilot Amy J. @cessna_ag_pilot95 for making the trip possible, and to Thunder Bay Tower @Cyqt.tower for their generous support of this rescue flight. 💚

We love to make the most of every opportunity. So when we can arrange for an animal or two to be flown both legs of a transport, we always jump at the chance!
Pilot Gerd W. recently took off from Burlington (CZBA) with a screech owl headed to the care of our friends at the @wildbirdcarecentre. Upon arrival in Carp (CYRP), the owl began its journey to recovery but, that wasn’t the only passenger.
For the return flight, Gerd transported a turkey vulture back to Burlington, our very first turkey vulture transport! These animals are nature’s clean-up crew. They use their keen sense of smell to find carrion and support a health ecosystem.
From Burlington, @theowlfoundation Foundation drove the vulture to their facility in the St. Catharines area.
Making the most of one flight means more wildlife gets the care they need, faster.

When a double transport opportunity comes up, it takes a true network of care and coordination to make it happen, especially for wildlife in need.
Recently, volunteer pilot Gerd W. completed a unique round-trip mission. On the northbound leg, he flew a screech owl from southern Ontario to Sault Ste. Marie, where it was released back into its natural habitat.
For the return flight, a Merlin falcon was carefully loaded into his aircraft and flown south to @theowlfoundation for specialized rehabilitation.
For over 40 years, The Owl Foundation has provided life-saving care to injured and orphaned birds of prey, with the goal of returning them to the wild — strong, healthy, and safe.
Behind every transport is a team of people who act with care, urgency, and commitment. These partnerships are what make our work possible.
Thank you to Gerd for volunteering his time and aircraft, and to The Owl Foundation for their decades of expert care.
Together, we’re giving wildlife a second chance.

When you adopt, you’re not just giving a pet a home…
you’re giving them a whole new life.
Last month, Bailey the golden retriever soared from Southwestern Ontario to Northern Ontario thanks to one of our frequent volunteer pilots, @kai.salvini.
Kai`s generosity saved Bailey`s new owners from driving thousands of kilometres, making it possible to bring Bailey quickly and comfortably to his home.
Bailey’s journey ended in the best way possible: a warm welcome into his forever home, thanks to Kai, our rescue partners at @GoldenRescue and our operations volunteers.
His story is one of many that show the power of choosing adoption.

Another rescue flight, another 7 lives saved…and we’re not slowing down.
Shortly after our recent 19-cat (!) transport, we were back in the skies helping 7 more cats on their journey.
This time, it was a relay rescue with pilots @Bradreid_btc and Walter teaming up to fly these northern cats from Fort St. John to the Vancouver area.
Brad flew leg one to @YLWKelowna, where he met Walter who took over for leg two.
These two volunteer pilots had to work together across long distances to make this happen. It wasn’t easy, but they were committed!
Huge thanks to our rescue partners, @NP_ForgottenFelinesSociety, and @KatiesPlaceShelter for trusting us with your precious cargo. The coordination, care, and compassion that go into every transport are immense, and it’s always worth it.
If you’ve been thinking about fostering or adopting, now’s the time. The need is real — and growing. Every cat that finds a home opens space for another one to be rescued.

19 cats, 1 pilot, 1 unforgettable flight.
We want to send huge thanks and congratulations to @hermanojonomono who completed his FIRST volunteer flight with Canadian Wings of Rescue – and wow was it a big one!
When our friends at @BPRescue and @NP_ForgottenFelinesSociety reached out about an urgent need in northern BC, pilot Jonathan didn’t hesitate. He took to the skies to transport 19 cats in 8 crates on board his aircraft!
These cats were rescued from a remote community where no local resources were available. Without this flight, they wouldn’t have had a chance at forever homes.
There is an urgent need for cat foster homes and adopters across the country.
👉 Consider fostering a cat and especially if you are in the Victoria, BC area, contact Broken Promises!
👉 Adopt — don’t shop — and give a rescued cat a second chance.
Broken Promises is also accepting donations of food and supplies to help with their new residents. Visit their page for more information.
We’re proud to support journeys like this and are so grateful to pilot volunteers like Jonathan and the rescue teams who make them happen.
